Relationships are perhaps the one area of life that elicit the most clichés and truisms from well-meaning people: relationships are hard work; or, relationships are like plants - they need tending, and so on. Many of these statements have some truth to them, but it is often superficial, and rarely do they provide much help for those in the midst of relationship difficulties. While they can require hard work, and they do need tending, each relationship comes with its unique history, and each person in the relationship has their own unique personality and needs that warrant consideration. There are many theoretical frameworks of relationship therapy.
