Monica Mittal, ASW, NCC
Ms. Mittal is a south bay native as well as a registered associate clinical social worker and nationally certified counselor. Her clinical approach is holistic, strengths-based and person-centered. She has extensive training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), having completed her training through the EMDR Institute; in addition, Ms. Mittal has deep expertise in psychometric testing (WISC, CAS) and non-violent communication (NVC), and has developed a firm appreciation for the importance of evidence-based treatments (CBT, DBT) alongside collaborative problem solving with her clients. She helps to create a warm, empathic and mutually respectful environment in session and strongly believes in each individual's innate ability to heal.
Ms. Mittal has a broad range of training and areas of clinical expertise. She has many years of experience working in schools both in the United States and abroad. She is highly attuned to the needs of neurodivergent clients as well as individuals experiencing culturally-based adjustments issues. She has worked extensively with children, young adults and their parents to help facilitate increased self-awareness, reduce distress, develop adaptive coping strategies and improve communication patterns in the family system. She warmly welcomes clients with depression, anxiety, post-partum experiences, parenting and relational challenges.
Ms. Mittal is formally trained in the neurosequential model of therapy and education, a trauma informed modality that focuses on nervous system regulation and providing a biologically respectful perspective towards human functioning. Ms. Mittal has also completed introductory training in Somatic Experiencing, another trauma informed modality that encourages attunement to body signals and responses in order to gently guide clients towards safe exploration of their underlying concerns.
Ms. Mittal received her bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of California, San Diego. Her master's of science is in counseling from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and her master's in social work from Simmon’s University.
