Marissa Kartub, AMFT
Hello! My name is Marissa and I am a bilingual Associate Marriage and Family Therapist. I love working as a therapist because I can provide support and bear witness to what I have always believed to be true - the ability of all people to grow and heal.
I believe in a client-centered, holistic approach that highlights the deep connection between the mind and the body. I largely draw from Adlerian theory; while I support clients in understanding how past trauma impacts the current self, I also empower clients and operate under the belief that no diagnosis or past experience defines you or your capabilities. I work with clients to support their goals with empathy and compassion. I know that clients are the experts of themselves and their lives, and feel deep gratitude to be entrusted to hold space for the stories, concerns, and hopes of my clients.
I have experience working with families, children, couples, individuals, and groups in Spanish and English. I have led treatment groups in parenting, domestic violence survivors, and domestic violence perpetrators. I have worked and trained under St. John’s Providence in perinatal mental health, providing care in the form of couples and families, dyadic care with parent and baby, and individual treatment for perinatal mood disorders. I also worked on the National Suicide Prevention Crisis line. My education includes a double major at UCLA in Psychobiology, B.S. and English: Creative Writing - Poetry, B.A. I received my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy, M.S. from USC.
