Dr. Ashley Diaz, PhD, APCC
Hello! My name is Dr. Ashley Diaz and I am passionate about working with communities as a bilingual and bicultural counselor. I have experience working with clients who may be struggling with mental health concerns related to anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, or schizophrenia. I strive to empower my clients to express their needs in the counseling session. I invite clients to collaborate with me to set realistic and achievable goals for healthy functioning. In addition, I encourage clients to make lifestyle changes, learn new coping tools, and become aware of the strengths they hold that will promote their well-being.
My clinical experience includes individual, group, couple, and family counseling services in several settings: outpatient, inpatient, partial hospitalization, and crisis counseling utilizing cognitive behavioral and person-centered approaches that emphasize holistic care. My caseload during my internship experience consisted of diverse adults, adolescents, and children with a wide range of social identities and cultural backgrounds. I also have experience working as a bilingual and bicultural counselor with Latinx and Spanish-speaking clients. Other clinical experiences include counseling services for college aged students at a university clinic and career service center. Additionally, I have provided individual, group, and family counseling services to students and families within a K-12 school district.
I am currently registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC) and working toward fulfilling my requirements to become a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. In May 2023, I completed my doctorate in Counselor Education at Penn State University (CACREO Accredited). I have also earned my Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) (CACREP Accredited) and my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from The University of Texas at Austin.
I value building trust with my clients and gaining a deeper understanding of who they are and what is important to them in a counseling relationship. I invite you to reach out to me if you are interested in learning more about how to build a stronger connection with yourself or how to foster connection with others.
